25 YEARS AND COUNTING:

This year marks Lakota’s 25th anniversary, and we are celebrating with a #LAKOTA25 CAMPAIGN. A series of blog posts on the 25th of each month highlight the range of work we have done over the past 25 years, and what’s ahead for Lakota. Be on the lookout for social media posts featuring Lakota Staffers from 25 years ago!

WITH HONORS:

Join us in congratulating MIKE KRITZMAN, our Senior Associate, on graduating from Roosevelt University with a master’s degree in Real Estate! On May 22, 2018 Mike will be one of the featured speakers at the“BYO” Tactical Urbanism discussion hosted by APA and CNU Illinois.

INSPIRING FUTURE PLANNERS & DESIGNERS:

Lakota loves to mentor planning and design students in universities throughout the region:

Currently, President SCOTT FRERES is serving as a guest lecturer for an undergraduate civil engineering class at Northwestern University focused on remediating flooding issues throughout the North Shore.

Associate Principal NICHOLAS KALOGERESIS has lectured at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and University of Illinois at Chicago for several years, and recently joined UIC as an adjunct faculty member, teaching a class on historic preservation this fall. Nick is also a webinar trainer for the Main Street America Institute. Nick, along with Associate CASSANDRA RICE, spoke at the Main Street Now Conference in Kansas City this past March. Cassandra recently served as a juror for an Illinois Institute of Technology design studio, evaluating apps designed to enhance walkability.

And Lakotans MARISA SCHULZ and RACHAEL SMITH are helping to teach a class in DePaul’s Sustainable Urban Development program focused on urban design. Principal KEVIN CLARK served as a guest lecturer on creative streetscape design and will lend his years of experience to the students as a juror in the final design pin-up. Associate SIRAJ ASFAHANI gave a lecture to graduate students in DePaul’s Sustainable Management program about “Design Thinking,” where he encouraged improvised solutions and prototyping on the spot to develop solutions to social problems.

We love working to inspire sustainability and good design in the planning field!

THE NEWEST LAKOTAN:

And in other news, we are excited to announce the smallest of the new additions to our Team, Benjamin Nico, the son of our Marketing & Brand Director, MARISA SCHULZ. Congratulations to the Schulz family on their latest addition!
