Nahant Marsh Restoration Master Plan

Davenport, Iowa

The 513-acre Nahant Marsh is a unique urban wetland that includes bottomland forest, open water habitat, and a significant marsh. Due to nearby development as well as city wastewater and composte facilities, the marsh’s quality had been badly impacted. Lakota facilitated a community planning process and prepared a master plan for restoration of the area’s distinct ecosystems. The plan defined buffer zones, interconnected trails/boardwalks, viewing stations for limited public access, and an environmental research center. The plan is based on Lakota’s Mississippi River Corridor Plan that recognized Nahant Marsh as a special recreational and educational asset for the Quad Cities region.
