A Vision for Downtown Berkley

The Berkley Downtown Development Authority has embarked on the creation of a new Downtown Master Plan, an important policy document that will guide future investment and development activity within the DDA district.  The Berkley DDA has engaged The Lakota Group, a Chicago-based planning and urban design firm, and a team of consultants to complete the Master Plan. The process for developing the Downtown Master Plan provides a unique opportunity for community residents and stakeholders to participate in the planning process and communicate their ideas regarding Downtown Berkley’s future. Please follow this website for future information and updates on the Downtown Berkley planning process.

The downtown planning process includes three key phases: Public Visioning & Outreach, Technical Planning, and Final Plan & Adoption. We are now in the Final Plan & Adoption phase! The completed State of the Downtown report from Phase 1 is available for review in the documents section below. The draft Master Plan will be available in the coming weeks – stay tuned!

A final interactive community workshop will take place on Saturday, July 13 at the Berkley Street Art Fest. Join the planning team from 11am-2pm and help create a moveable-mural for Downtown Berkley that celebrates the Master Plan. In addition to the mural, exhibits will outline the key goals and strategies of the Master Plan and how you can be involved in the implementation of the plan. We hope to see you there!

All materials presented at previous open houses, as well as results from the online survey/workshop survey, are posted in the documents section below. Analysis of these results, as well as additional open-ended responses, will be included in the forthcoming Master Plan document.

Additionally, a community Pinterest board has been created for residents and business owners to share photos of their ideas for improvements in Downtown Berkley. If you would like to share your ideas on to the Pinterest board, send us a message through the contact form below with the email associated with your Pinterest account and we will add you as a collaborator!
