The Berkley Downtown Development Authority has embarked on the creation of a new Downtown Master Plan, an important policy document that will guide future investment and development activity within the DDA district. The Berkley DDA has engaged The Lakota Group, a Chicago-based planning and urban design firm, and a team of consultants to complete the Master Plan. The process for developing the Downtown Master Plan provides a unique opportunity for community residents and stakeholders to participate in the planning process and communicate their ideas regarding Downtown Berkley’s future. Please follow this website for future information and updates on the Downtown Berkley planning process.
The downtown planning process includes three key phases: Public Visioning & Outreach, Technical Planning, and Adoption & Implementation. We are now in the Technical Plan phase! The completed State of the Downtown report from Phase 1 is available for review in the documents section below. The draft Master Plan will be available in the coming weeks – stay tuned!
The second community open house occurred on Thursday, February 28 at Berkley High School Collaborative Center from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, with a Field Office at 3116 Twelve Mile Road the following day. At these events, the planning team presented various downtown improvements concepts for community input, using the feedback received at the first open house as our guide. Results of the parking study and recommendations for parking improvements were highlighted, and concepts for downtown open space, streetscape improvements, and business development strategies were discussed with community members.
All materials presented at the open house, as well as results from the online survey/workshop survey, are posted in the documents section below. Analysis of these results, as well as additional open-ended responses, will be included in the forthcoming Master Plan document.
Additionally, a community Pinterest board has been created for residents and business owners to share photos of their ideas for improvements in Downtown Berkley. If you would like to share your ideas on to the Pinterest board, send us a message through the contact form below with the email associated with your Pinterest account and we will add you as a collaborator!
