Brandywine Revitalization and Preservation Planning

Prince George’s County, Maryland

Lakota led a team of consultants hired by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) to prepare a set of initiatives for preserving the character of Brandywine, an unincorporated community 40 minutes southeast of Washington D.C. The team, which included TransSystems, focused on the Brandywine Road corridor that serves as the community’s “Main Street.” Several highly-attended community workshops were conducted in order to pinpoint the community’s character and values, and additionally served as an opportunity to present new land use, roadway, streetscape, landscape, and branding concepts. A final report detailing plan recommendations and implementation strategies was well-received by the residents, local business owners, and planning board.
