Niles Arts and Culture Plan

The Project

The Village of Niles has launched its Arts and Culture Master Plan and has engaged The Lakota Group, a planning and design firm located in Chicago, to lead the effort. Jon Pounds, a public arts consultant who serves on the Americans for the Arts Public Art Network Council, is assisting Lakota on the project.

By working closely with Village staff, the Public Arts and Culture Advisory Council, and a variety of stakeholders, the planning team will identify realistic and implementable short-term and long-term goals and objectives for improving the arts and culture environment throughout the community. It is our goal to create a key community tool to further define the character of Niles, improve the attractiveness and vibrancy of the community, and enhance the livability of the Village.

This site is an online platform to provide the residents, businesses, and artists of Niles with the opportunity to work together on creating a vibrant Arts + Culture Plan. We believe the best way to tackle challenges that affect the community is with the community. By using a platform that allows members of the community to contribute from their own homes and on their own schedules, we’ll be able to engage a broader audience. And with this broader audience comes a broader range of ideas, solutions and participation. So, who should participate on this site? You! We want your ideas, your feedback, your comments, and your point of view.

Together, we can build a better Niles!

This process is an opportunity to engage stakeholders and residents in an open dialogue to define what art and culture means to Niles and what its role should be in the future. This will help build a vision and a set of implementable strategies for furthering the arts and culture of Niles in a meaningful way.
