Forest Downtown Plan and Streetscape/Main Street Design:
Lakota prepared a Master Plan for the revitalization of Park Forest Plaza, a defunct 1950s suburban mall. The Plan and Streetscape Design
change the auto-oriented mall environment into a pedestrian-friendly downtown setting of
mixed uses; defined and connected streets; small blocks; attractive
landscaping; and open, visible storefronts. A new “Main Street” was the Plan’s centerpiece to improve access and visibility to the shopping center’s core.
The Downtown Park Forest Master Plan was featured in a recent Congress for the
New Urbanism report called "Grayfields to Goldfields," which reviewed case studies of defunct malls throughout the nation that are being turned into active downtowns, neighborhoods, and town centers.
