Mississippi River Corridor Wayfinding Plan & Signage Design

Quad Cities, Illinois/Iowa

Following in the creative footsteps of the RiverWay Wayfinding elements previously developed by Lakota for the Quad Cities Mississippi River Corridor, River Action commissioned Lakota to design and coordinate a simple, clear, and unique Regional Bike Trail Wayfinding and Signage Program. These cost-effective and locally fabricated signs provide a color-coded identifier integrated into the RiverWay base family color palette. Building upon the goals in the Mississippi River Corridor Design Principles and the philosophy of River Action, Lakota incorporated a contextual “environmental art component” to these signs in the form of interchangeable “pole toppers.” The poles and signs use individual bike components strategically located throughout this regional bike system to reflect the great recreation opportunities the trail provides.
