Illinois Medical District Master Plan

Chicago, Illinois

Lakota assisted in the preparation of the initial master plan for the 560-acre, mixed-use Illinois Medical District, which includes the Chicago Technology Park, University of Illinois, Rush Medical Center, U.S. Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Cook County Hospital. The Plan identified more than 25 member institution developments that created 14 million square feet of new construction. It also defined significant changes to the area’s physical conditions, infrastructure, and streetscape. The IMD Commission, a special state authority, also engaged Lakota for nearly 10 years after the completion of the Master Plan to provide ongoing planning and design services for site-specific projects within the District, including specific site studies and updates to the Master Plan.
