Phase II: Preservation Visioning

The visioning phase will explore ideas and concepts for specific historic preservation planning strategies and initiatives through research, creative thinking and community engagement with the overall goal of establishing a compelling vision for a strengthened, more effective city-wide historic preservation program. A range of preservation planning strategies and recommendations will be prepared which focus on the priorities for identifying future landmarks and historic districts; improvement of the operations of the City’s Office of Historic Preservation; revisions to the Historic Preservation and Urban Design sections of the Unified Development Code; development of new financial incentives; integration of preservation planning policies in other comprehensive and district level planning activities; and the development of new partnerships between various organizations and the City of San Antonio. Additional community workshops, stakeholder interviews and focus groups will also be conducted. This phase has been completed as of June 30, 2009.
